KEK Reinsurance Brokers (Africa) Ltd. is Ghana’s first Reinsurance Broking firm ever established. Founded in 2006, we have remained unrelenting in our mission to “provide excellent, professional, and timely reinsurance broking and consultancy services to our highly cherished clients.”
The company—a wholly-owned subsidiary of the nation’s leading insurance broking firm, KEK Insurance Brokers—has since its inception spread its dominance from the Ghanaian market to the rest of the West African sub-region. And it is our vision to “remain the most sought-after reinsurance broking firm in the whole of African Market.”
We were founded at the very inception of the nation’s second wave of regulatory reform—with the enactment of the Insurance Act, 2006, a law which fine-tuned the nation’s insurance legal and regulatory climate necessitated by its predecessor NRCD 95. We have since then contributed our quota to the insurance market in the sub region, by among others, helping cedants with the placement of Facultative, Treaty and Retrocession Programs from all parts of Africa. This has won us many awards over the years. We were in 2020, adjudged the CIIG Reinsurance Broker of the Year by the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG).
The immeasurable expertise we have garnered over the years translates directly into the excellent, high-value service we provide our clients. We have an unsurpassable access to the very wide and varied reinsurance markets; we maintain proximity to our clients; and utilise our brilliant and dedicated staff all in service of our queen bee—our clients. We are after all, “the broker next door”.
In September 2020, we underwent a restructuring of leadership. Our long-serving former CEO, Mr. Shaibu Ali passed the baton on to Nuerkie Afi Odzeyem, who was previously Chief Manager of the company. The appointment of William Larbi Ampofo as Reinsurance Manager also goes to solidify the vibrant team at KEK Re.
Ms. Odzeyem is a Chartered Insurer at the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK. She holds a master’s degree in Business Management, Halifax College, London, and a Diploma in Applied Insurance Studies (AIS), GIC/Malta. She was a mentee of the great, Kwesi Essel-Koomson of blessed memory. She has proven herself a woman poised to serve this new position of CEO. She has showed herself committed to building and pursuing excellence in all areas, by ensuring, among others, continuous quality improvement by adopting proactive approaches that meet clients’ needs.
In our quest to be the sought-after reinsurance broker in the sub-region we recently have established the Life department. This is to provide extensive reinsurance broking services to all Life Insurance companies within our areas of operation. We have to this effect appointed a Life underwriter in the person of Prince Nyarko to drive this new unit.
The global pandemic, causing a worldwide recession, and having an adverse effect on the insurance industry, did also affect the company. But our company, very much in line with its nature as market leader, was quick to regroup. Taking advantage of the digital world necessitated by the pandemic (even in a slow-paced technological nation such as ours), we daresay we have come out even stronger.
