KEK Insurance Brokers Limited Supports KNUST SONSOL Project

September 1, 2021

KEK Insurance Brokers Ltd. has donated sixty (60) brand new laptop computers to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) valued at GHS 174,000.00. This gesture will augment the “Support One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL) Project.”
The donation was made when the team paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson on Monday, 30th August 2021 at the Council Chamber.
Speaking at the meeting, the Managing Director of KEK Insurance Brokers Limited Mr. Shaibu Ali said that the donation by the company forms part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to support the Vice Chancellor’s vision of providing laptops to students from difficult backgrounds to participate fully in online learning. He noted that education is a key component for developing problem-solving skills of young people, hence, there is the need for KEK Insurance to give back to society.
Speaking about the company Mr. Ali said KEK Insurance Brokers is a multinational insurance broking firm with subsidiaries in Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. KEK partners the leading global insurance broking firms to provide enhanced broking services to both local and multinational firms in all sectors of the economy.
He noted that KEK Insurance Brokers Ltd was registered in Ghana as a limited liability company in 1985 and obtained the license to operate as an insurance broking and consultancy firm in 1990. KEK provides life and non-life insurance broking as well as risk management consultancy to businesses, households, and individuals.
The MD also indicated that KEK Insurance Brokers is well-placed to add value to the businesses of their clients in a profitable way by providing quality, professional, excellent, and time-bound management of clients’ insurance programs.
He mentioned that it has been the forethought of the founder, Mr. Kwesi Essel Koomson (KEK) to support in building the capacity of the youth, therefore, the company is obliged to support such purposes with a percentage of its profit annually.
Receiving the laptop computers, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson in her remarks expressed that KNUST would continue to leverage on constructive partnerships as well as building good relationships to help champion the agenda of the university. ‘As a Premier University in Science and Technology, it was paramount on the University to make use of the virtual space to complete the academic work for the semester because of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020.’ The Vice Chancellor intimated that during the period of online teaching and learning, many students from deprived backgrounds were unable to participate in the virtual learning, hence, the need to bring them along with their peers.
She expressed gratitude to all benefactors and other business institutions for their generous contributions to the University by supporting the over 600 students who have benefited from the Project, and she asked other corporations to support the noble cause.
In thanking KEK Insurance Brokers Ltd., the Vice Chancellor took the chance to urge the company to give internship opportunities for these students so that they can learn how to create their own jobs and hire others. She also urged the company to include the (SONSOL) program in their annual project so that smart but disadvantaged students may benefit from their help on a yearly basis.
